Directions from Cleveland, Tennessee, to Barney Creek, Shearer Schoolhouse Site, First Assembly House, and Fields of the Wood
1. Take Highway 64 East out of Cleveland towards North Carolina and go to Ducktown. Ducktown is beyond the Ocoee River whitewater area at the top of the hill.
2. Take Highway 68 North. Go through Turtletown to fork of road (Highway 68 and TN Highway 123).
3. To go to Barney Creek, take a left at the fork and go 4 miles to Farner on Highway 68. Go through Farner. Go about 20 miles to Ironsburg Methodist Church (white building on left). Take a left on Barney Creek Road, which is the first road past the church (not driveway). Go exactly 1 mile to Spurling Millsite along Barney Creek on right. This is where Christian Union was set in order on August 19, 1886.
4. To go to Shearer Schoolhouse Site and First Assembly House, return to Highway 68 and turn right to travel south. At fork turn left onto TN Highway 123. Follow TN Highway 123 to NC Highway 294 (different numbering in Tennessee and N. Carolina) towards Fields of the Wood. Go for just over three miles to sign on left, “First Assembly House.” Turn to the left at this sign onto River Hill Road. First Assembly House is about ¼ mile on the left. Go past Assembly House for about a mile to Shearer Schoolhouse site on the right. There is a billboard with a painting of the schoolhouse and a “marker.” Just beyond the Shearer Schoolhouse site and across the road on the left is the site of the log church, which was burned in 1900.
5. To go to Fields of the Wood (W. F. Bryant Home), return to NC Highway 294 and turn left. Go about 1 mile to Fields of the Wood on the left.

2. 411 North to Etowah
3. Right on 310 to Tellico Plains
4. Right (South) on 68 through Coker Creek to Barney Creek Road on right
