DPRC Staff Toolbox

Below you will find a collection of resources—links, videos, and files—that can be helpful in elevating your skills for your work at the DPRC.
The Operations and Policies Manual

Archival Description primer course — Society of American Archivists
If you work with processing collections, you need to watch these videos.
ArchivesSpace
Almost everyone working at the DPRC should watch this overview of the ASpace system. Even if your main job is not working with collection processing, you need to be familiar with this platform for the times you will work in it and for having a better foundation for doing research and helping patrons. Some of the features presented here are applicable only to the archivist's tasks, but again...broad understanding for everyone.
Care and Handling — Sherman Fairchild Center for Book Conservation
Watch this video to understand better how to handle items yourself and to assist our patrons in handling the fragile items in our holdings.
Murder in the Stacks --- Columbia University
Another video to help with the care of our materials, particularly books.
Digitization 101 & 201 — Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts
If you work with digitizing (photographs and scans) of objects and print materials you need to watch these videos.
Documentary Heritage & Preservation Services for New York
Excellent training is available at this website through their posted webinars. Free webinars are available for administration, collections care, collections management, digital preservation, emergency preparedness, and outreach. You can start with the link below.
  • Finding Aid Basics: An Introduction to DACS
Asana Project Management Platform and Clockify
Most of the assistant staff are set up to work with Asana concerning assigned tasks and tracking time in Clockify on specific projects (different than your overall, payroll time entry).
Preservica Starter
Preservica Starter is our main portal for making digital objects accessible to the public. We also use YouTube for videos and some other files are hosted on this website. This is an introduction to our version of Preservica to which the archivist and a limited number of assistants have access.
Squires Library video tutorials
Especially relevant tutorials located at this link are the videos for "Discovery Service," the "ATLA Religion database," and especially the "Library's Online Catalog" and the "Pentecostal Archives Digital Collection." They are found under "Searching the Library's Resources."

Most of the assistant staff are set up to work with Asana concerning assigned tasks and tracking time in Clockify on specific projects (different than your overall, payroll time entry). It is possible to use Clockify as a stand-alone or integrated in Asana. If you want to integrate it, see the archivist.

The first video is an introductory video to help you understand the Asana platform. The second video is a tutorial on entering time in Clockify.

Any questions, see the archivist.
